FLOAT PRESENTATIONS FOR FINE ART ON PAPER AND PHOTOGRAPHSFloat presentations are used when it is important to see the edges of the artwork. The art may have a deckled edge or may come completely to the edge. It is also used on artwork that is dimensional or doesn't lie flat. When using a float presentation it is necessary to separate the artwork from the glazing material with a spacer. |
Museum BoardsMuseum mat board is recommended to ensure that the art is protected over time from acidity. They are 100% percent rag boards made from cotton which is naturally lignin-free. SpacersSpacers are used to provide the separation. Spacers can be made of wood, plastic, or matboard. Metropolitan has designed a line of exhibition frames that will accommodate our custom wood spacers that can be purchased in depths ranging from 1/4″ – 2″. Custom sized are also available. We also carry econospace plastic spacers in 1/8 and 1/4″ depths. MeasuringBe sure and measure from edge to edge (if the image is out of square, measure from the widest and longest point) |
Border size
Generally, smaller borders are used on float presentations than on matted presentations. Sizes generally range from 1/2″ on smaller pictures to 1 to 1 1/2″ on larger pictures.
